Hinduism is the best example of religious tolerance

Hinduism is more than just a mere religion; it’s a philosophy of life. It has blossomed and bloomed over time. Don’t reduce it to the rigid interpretation of communist, left-wingers and Hinduphobic haters.

“When I read the Bhagavad-Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous.” — Albert Einstein

As a Hindu we are taught not to think of our religion being better or greater, but to think of it and practice it so that one eventually become one with the creator and moves away from the duality of me vs you, God vs man, Hindu vs Muslim, superior vs inferior, rich vs poor and so on. To understand the damning nature of duality and slowly move away from it is the fundamental tenet of Hinduism and in that lies its beauty and not greatness.

Hinduism is not a religion. It is a way of life. It accommodates plurality in terms of practicing different paths to achieve different goals. So in modern terms we can say — it is more secular practice that is considered as a religion by many compared to any other religion. Because of its plurality of paths, it has inherent tolerance that comes with it. That makes it much more acceptable compared other religions which focus on a single approach.

Hinduism has faced a lot during the Islamic regime from the barbaric Ghori to Aurangzeb and also local tyrants like Tipu Sultan. Then came the British rule. They raped, they converted, they massacred, attacked, but the religion survived.

An interesting fact is that Persia was converted fully to Islam in about 20 years, Europe was converted to Christianity within about 50–100 years but in India we had Islamic rule for about 700+ years and Christian rule for about 200 years, but still we have a significant population of Hindus, justifying the name Sanatan.

In Hinduism you can literally choose your own god and worship it. You will never be judged and prosecuted. It’s very rare that someone in India was prosecuted because he was an atheist. The first prime minister of India was an atheist. One of the founders of RSS were an atheist. The basic nature of Hinduism is accommodating and accepting.

There is no superiority complex, (there is no concept of believer will go to heaven and non believers rot in hell). Hinduism believes there can be different philosophies, beliefs and ways of life. And a person has a right to decide which one he chooses . Atheists are treated with same respect as a believing Hindu. There is no right way or wrong way. Only a way of your choice.

Except Hinduism and Judaism, all of the other major religions of the world carry out active missionary work. Hinduism inherently accepts that there is no “One Truth”, there are many truths in this Universe, each as true as the next. A popular Hindu line of thought runs thus: “Just like many rivers reach the ocean, there are many ways to reach God”. For how could a religion with such a vast diversity in its own traditions purport to uphold “one true way”?

What is amazing is the fact that despite having been exposed to proselytizing religions such as Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity and Islam at various points in time, Hinduism remained undaunted.

Which is why the slings and arrows of the leftwing commentariats, communists and Modi-haters will never reach their targets.
